When I'm browsing the internet, I found a unique thing, namely The Physalia - EXQUISITE Floating Garden. Vincent Callebaut, the Belgian architect designed a whale-shaped half-boat and half-building as we can call it The Physalia, which is inspired from Physalia physalis (a jelly-like creature, marine invertebrate of the family Physaliidae). This invention is a combination between the nature and biotechnologies field because it can float on deep rivers and purify water without resulting on any emissions, which that mean Physalia can even makes the filthy water to be drinkable. The architect made this invention from his concern to people around the world who are hardly found any access to pure and clean water to consume.
This floating mammoth is 80m in length and 11.4m in height, while its width is around 14.9m in which worth a surface area of 2000 square meters. The architect put a special coat made with titanium dioxide to paint the silvery shell. Therefore, it could neutralize pollution by simply enabling reaction which could decompose both organic and non-organic chemical toxins. Under the silvery-shell, they got hydro-turbines to transform the water flow to electricity that enable to respond any soft navigation. The rooftop, which contains the photovoltaic cells, takes energy from the sun. As the Physalia moves along, it can draw both of solar and hydro energy. Physalia’s inner side can be categorized as four gardens. The gardens are named as Water, Earth, Fire, and Air. The four are dedicated to the famous four essential elements in the living creature’s life.
The Physalia is not only working as the energy generator’s ship, but it also behaves as a laboratory and a museum. Scientists who are willing to study any aquatic ecosystem and any tourists can visit the Physalia. Tourists can visit the temporary exhibits in the ‘water garden’. It is meant to travels Europe’s rivers, and if it got any chance, Physalia will visit extra-European rivers between Rhine and Guadalquivir, or also between Euphrate and Tiger. Indeed, The Physalia is a great innovation that maybe can solve the climate change issues.
